There are a lot of different techniques to master while tailoring and creating clothes, and also many decisions to make. A lot of them centers around quality. Do you want a quick fix, or do you want to reach a higher standard.
Some people see it as craziness! I see it as a protest. Some people just don’t care. Finally I got my buttonholes made into my C2 Denim Jacket! Yes! They were made by hand of course.
So what’s the difference in machine vs. man? And why do I do it? And finally, what’s the protest all about? Well, let’s break it down, and I’ll try to give you some answers.
I wanted to make real workwear back then! I liked the rugged 1950’s look – a bit worn and baggy. I bought torn and wasted second-hand jeans and re-made them to fit me and my own body size. It was the late 80’s. I was told it was the “original look” to have, and I wore it in layers together with cotton turtlenecks, worn denim jacket and a oversized blazer. All on top of each other. I was happy.
Mending – or saving as I usually call it – is a word seldom used today. When something accidentally is torn apart or worn to pieces, it is usually thrown away. But sometimes a garment can actually be your absolute favorite, or for some other reason be valuable enough to save. What to do? Start mending!
